This stone, dedicated April 25, 1960, marks the site of the Former Methodist Episcopal "Charles City Chapel" and symbolizes the enduring spirit of the men and women who, almost a century, kept the church alive. The meeting house erected in 1855 often was sustained through the efforts of a faithful few. The "Chapel" nevertheless contributed strengthening leadership when, in the 1940's the pour colonial Methodist Episcopal churches of Charles City emerged and built memorial near the county seat. The Chapel was closed for services in 1948 when Memorial Methodist Church formally opened.
