Killed in the Second Manassas Battle on August 30, 1862
Company K, Palmetto South Carolina Sharpshooters, Jenkins' Brigade, Kemper's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.
Enlisted on 4/8/1861 at Charleston for 12 months' service, on 5/9/1861 he was mustered into Captain G.B. Cuthbert's Company, 2nd (Palmetto) Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers as a Private. (This unit subsequently became Company I, 2nd (Palmetto) South Carolina Infantry.)
On 4/16/1862 he was transferred into Jenkins' Regiment Palmetto Sharp Shooters as a Private. (This regiment was redesignated the Palmetto Regiment Sharp Shooters.)
Present on all rolls until Sept & Oct 1862 Roll when listed as 5th Corporal and "Killed in battle Aug 30 1862." (This is the 2nd Battle of Manassas.)
The Palmetto Regiment Sharpshooters was organized in April, 1862, with transfers from the 2nd, 5th, and 9th South Carolina Infantry Regiments.
