Pvt. DENNIS S. HOWERY, SR. Enlisted in the CONFEDERATE ARMY once in 1861, then again on January 27, 1863. He joined CO.K, 45th VIRGINIA Infantry, CSA. HE WAS SWORN IN BY CAPT. YOST at the TAZEWELL CH.in TAZEWELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA. DENNIS was born in FLOYD COUNTY, VA in 1826, and died in TAZEWELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA in 1902. During the war he fought in several battles only to be captured on June 5, 1864 at Piedmont in AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA. He was imprisoned at Camp Morton,Indianapolis, Indiana until the end of the war. He found his way home where his wife and family were waiting. He was a cabinet maker and a farmer in Thompson Valley, Tazewell CO., VA. where he along with several family members are buried.
